The Brazilian Adventure: Week 24 November 11-- November 17
My Dearest beloved Family and Friends
This week has been crazy and full of new things. So my new companions name is Elder Salles. He is Brazilian and he is from Espirito Santo. He is a great guy. I love him already. He is a simple guy. He is pretty chilled and layed back and with a little motivation, he is a great worker. He is supper nice. He likes learning. He has been on his mission for 1 year and 3 months now, so he knows a lot. The new sisters are supper great. One has been out for about a year and the other is being trained and is fresh right out of the MTC. They are already working hard and tearing it up. Which is so great. I think I can trust them with my old are and my old investigators. It is kinda hard working in the same ward with sisters because there are a lot of rules and that we have to live by and so it is kinda hard working with them. But the Lord provides away for us to do it. and so all is well. My new area is so awesome. We have to walk supper far every single day to work out there, but it is all good. We moving into the deep jungle finding some neighborhoods to teach some people. We didn´t find anyone really great this week, but this week we will begin our search again to find those people who the Lord has prepared. I´m so excited to find them. We are also looking up the member list and going out to find less and in-active members to help them come back to church. but it is a little challenging. We are aren't going to have as many people to teach as much as the sisters. But I have a feeling and faith that we are going to find some of our heavenly father´s elect and help hear about the Lords restored gospel. The jungle is so awesome too. We have been finding some awesome trails. I thought when they splitted my mission and they gave us just the city part of the mission, that I would never work in the jungle. but it is happening now and I´m so pumped up for it. YEAHH!!! see.
Yesterday in the morning it was pouring rain. And so we had a little bit of people in church. It was sad. I also notice that Ivanete wasn´t there to receive the Holy Ghost. So Elder Salles and I and another member got together and we planned to go out to find her after sacrament. But just as we were walking out. There she was out side the church gate in the pouring rain making her way to church. All I can do is smile and then look at my companion and tell him "Yup, I baptised her". haha just kidding. She is so awesome. She then received the Holy Ghost and it was so great. The lord is so amazing.
So there is a recent convert named Vanessa in the church. She has been a member for a about a year. She is 20 years old and she is getting ready to go on a mission. She has a great testimony in the church. She is the only member in her family though. She says that her mom doesn´t want her to go on a mission and she has been having a hard time with that. Ever since I have been here, she always asked Elder Carlos if we can go visit her mom. But we never ended up going. I think it is because she lives supper far. And we had a lot of work. But now we have the sisters to take care of the town center and I think now is good. Vanessa is so amazing. Every Sunday she walks about 1 or 2 miles from her home to get to the main road and she takes a bus 30 minutes to make it to church every Sunday. She does this all by herself. I was touched by her story and her faith. And I just thought and the spirit was telling me that she deserves at least a visit from us. So we made the time yesterday after church and we made to long trip to visit her and her mom. It was sooooo far. And it was so amazing. I´m so amazed that we found her house, it was way deep in the jungle. But the Lord helped us find it. We walked up to the house and found Vanessa outside playing with her cousins and then we shout out for her name. It was so amazing to see her amazement and joy on her face when she saw us. We then met her mother who is a hard cor Catholic latty. She was pretty nice and pretty sweet. We then shared her a message in the BOM and bared our testimony about the church, the book of Mormon, Thomas S. Manson, Joesph Smith, about a mission and about what great faith her daughter has. We complimented her daughter a lot, well it was kinda easy, she is such a great member. The spirit was so strong with us and it was so amazing to see the spirit work through her too. I looked over at Vanessa and she was filled with so much joy with tears in her eyes. I know her mom felt it was true. After that she thanked us for coming and sharing our message and we went back. We are planning on visiting her again this week and inviting her to come to church. I hope it goes good. It is so amazing how much a simple visit like that meant to Vanessa. She was so surprised that we actually came. It was such an amazing experience. I hope her mom comes to church this next Sunday I hope things go well.
I love my misison. I wouldn´t want to be anywhere else right now. I know that this is where I´m supposed to be today. I´m so happy. I hope you all are keeping it real and making the best out of this great blessing that the Lord has blessed you with, called "life". not the cereal. I hope you are taking advantage of every day He gives you to become a little better. I hope you are not sitting around and letting great blessings and opportunities go by. I love you all and I hope you are all doing amazing.
