The Brazilian Adventure: Week 15 September 9-- September 15
Dear Family and Friends
This week was great! So the first Sunday I was here. We had to chance to meet two young teenagers at church about two weeks ago. They were investigators. And after 2 weeks of lessons, preparation, and the lords help. The Lord has allowed us to baptize Mateus, 14 years old, and Ruan, 13 years old, this weekend on Saturday. It was so awesome! My paps baptized Ruan, and I baptized Mateus. It is so amazing how much the Lord is helping us out. I see his hand in this work so many times. He is helping me learn the language supper fast. I don´t think I´ll be fluent until a while. But I´m getting there. It is so amazing when we are teaching and when I start to talk about my parts of the lesson. At first, I have no idea how I´m going to do, but then I open my mouth and the spirit kicks in and I just start speaking Portuguese like a champion. And then the coolest part is at the end when they actually understand me! It is sweet. I love it!
I heard this promise from someone about reading the book of mormon in another language. They said that if you read the whole book of mormon, cover to cover, in a language that you want to speak. You will be fluent in that language when you finish. So I´m going to test that promise and read the whole book of mormon in Portugese. I hope it works, because I´m reading so slow. It is going to take me forever. But I can do it, especially with the lords help. It is so cool, for some reason (well, that reason is the Spirit) I have a very hard time understading everybody when they speak, but when my paps speaks to me, I can understand almost every word he says. It blows my mind. The gift of tongues is so real. Pretty dang sweet, not gonna lie. I´m such a proud son. My paps is so awesome. He is teachinig me so many great things. He is such a great example to me. So my Dady is District Leader and so he goes on exchanges every week. That means that I have to take care of the area for the day. My first week here, I had to do that. And this week, due to a lot of random situations, I had to do it three times. It was crazy! But surprisingly, it was not so bad. I swear it is so amazing how much the Lord is helping me out. He helps me with everything. I literally would not be able to do this with out his guidence and help. I have never felt the influence of the spirit so much before in my life. There is so much work to do here. It is awesome. I hope I can handle it all and do what to Lord wants me to do. I hope you all are doing supperb. Keep on smiling! And be happy. It is the way to go.
Love your Elder, The Elder Jones
